Sound Tester offers free browser tools and guides for general information and everyday testing only.

  • Our tools do not diagnose hearing loss or any medical condition.
  • Readings are estimates that depend on your device and are not certified measurements.
  • Loud or extreme test sounds can harm your hearing and your equipment. Always start at low volume.
Section 1

General Information Only

All tools, guides, reviews and other content on soundtester.net (the "Site") are provided in good faith for general information, education and everyday audio testing. While we work to keep everything accurate and up to date, as described in our Editorial Policy, we make no guarantee about the completeness, accuracy or reliability of any information or result.

Any action you take based on the Site is strictly at your own risk.

Section 2

Medical And Hearing Disclaimer

The Hearing Test, hearing range checks, ear age estimates and all hearing and noise content on the Site are not medical advice and are not a substitute for a hearing test by a licensed audiologist or a diagnosis by a doctor.

  • Online hearing results are affected by your headphones, device volume, background noise and how you respond, so they can be wrong.
  • A "normal" result does not rule out hearing problems, and a poor result does not confirm them.
  • Never delay or ignore professional medical advice because of something you read or tested on the Site.
Get medical help right away if you notice sudden hearing loss, hearing loss in one ear, ringing that does not go away, ear pain, discharge or dizziness.
Section 3

Measurement Accuracy

Tones, sweeps and noise are generated digitally and are exact in frequency. How they sound, and any reading taken through a microphone, depends on hardware and settings we cannot control.

ToolWhat affects the result
Decibel MeterMicrophone quality, auto gain and noise suppression, phone case, calibration. Readings are estimates, not Class 1 or Class 2 sound level meter results.
Mic Test scoreRoom noise, distance from the mic, browser audio processing and system input level.
Spectrum AnalyzerMicrophone frequency response, FFT settings and the sample rate of your device.
Bass and range testsSpeaker and headphone limits, room acoustics, Bluetooth compression and audio enhancements.

Results are best used for quick checks and before-and-after comparisons on the same device.

Section 4

Hearing Safety And Equipment Damage

Test sounds can be loud, and high or very low frequencies can be harmful even when they are hard to hear. You are fully responsible for the volume you use and for the equipment you play sound through.

  • Always start at low volume and raise it slowly.
  • Stop at once if you feel discomfort, pain or ringing in your ears.
  • Bass tones, sweeps and loud noise can damage small speakers, laptop speakers, earbuds, tweeters and amplifiers.
  • Do not play test sounds at people or animals without their consent.

Sound Tester is not responsible for any hearing damage, discomfort or damage to speakers, headphones or other devices from using the Site.

Section 5

Binaural Beats Disclaimer

Binaural beats are offered for relaxation and general wellbeing only. Scientific research on their effects is mixed, and we make no medical, therapeutic or performance claims. They are not a treatment for any condition, including anxiety, insomnia, ADHD or pain.

  • Do not listen while driving, cycling or operating machinery.
  • If you have epilepsy, a seizure disorder, a heart condition, a mental health condition or are pregnant, talk to a doctor first.
  • Stop listening if you feel unwell, dizzy or uncomfortable.
Section 6

Not For Professional, Legal Or Compliance Use

The Site is not a substitute for professional services. Do not use our tools or content as the basis for:

  • Workplace noise assessments or occupational safety compliance, such as OSHA or other noise regulations.
  • Noise complaints, legal disputes, insurance claims or court evidence.
  • Building acoustics, studio calibration or engineering decisions that need certified equipment.
  • Medical, employment or fitness-for-work hearing decisions.

For these, please use a qualified professional and properly calibrated, certified equipment.

Section 7
