01

Agreement To These Terms

By opening or using soundtester.net or any of its tools, guides or pages (together, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

These terms work together with our Privacy Policy and Editorial Policy.

In plain wordsUsing the site means you accept these rules.
02

Who We Are

The Service is run by the Sound Tester team ("Sound Tester", "we", "us" or "our"). You can learn more about us on our About page and reach us through our Contact page or at contact@soundtester.net.

In plain wordsWe are Sound Tester, and you can always contact us.
03

Who Can Use Sound Tester

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, or under the age of adulthood where you live, you should use the Service with the knowledge of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms for you.

If you use the Service for a company or school, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.

In plain wordsAges 13 and up. Under 18, use it with a parent's knowledge.
04

Using The Tools

We give you a free, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the Service for checking, setting up and learning about audio equipment and hearing, both privately and at work.

  • No account needed. The tools work without sign-up.
  • Browser permissions. Some tools, such as the Mic Test, Decibel Meter and Spectrum Analyzer, ask for microphone access. You can allow or block this at any time in your browser settings.
  • On-device processing. Microphone audio is analyzed in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers.
  • Saved settings. Some tools store small settings, like a calibration offset or test results, in your own browser. You can clear them by clearing your site data.
In plain wordsUse the tools freely. Mic access is your choice and your audio stays on your device.
05

Hearing Safety

Our tools play tones, sweeps, noise and beats that can be loud, especially through headphones. You are responsible for setting a safe volume.

  • Always start with your device volume low and raise it slowly.
  • Stop at once if you feel pain, ringing, pressure or dizziness.
  • Take breaks. Long listening at high volume can cause lasting hearing damage.
  • Do not use Binaural Beats or any other tool while driving, cycling or operating machinery.
  • If you have epilepsy, a seizure disorder, a heart condition, tinnitus or a hearing condition, or are pregnant, talk to a doctor before using beat or tone sessions.
  • Keep tools away from young children and pets, who can be more sensitive to high frequencies.
Important: a tone you cannot hear can still be loud. With high frequency and very low frequency tests, keep the volume low even if you hear nothing.
In plain wordsStart quiet, stop if it hurts, and never use beats while driving.
06

Not Medical Or Professional Advice

The Service is for information and general testing only. It is not medical, audiological, legal, safety or engineering advice.

  • The Hearing Test is a screening. It cannot diagnose hearing loss and does not replace a test by a doctor or audiologist.
  • The Decibel Meter and other microphone tools give estimates that depend on your hardware. They are not certified sound level meters and must not be used for legal, workplace or compliance measurements.
  • Binaural Beats are offered for relaxation and focus. We make no medical or therapeutic claims about them.

If you have any concern about your hearing, see a qualified health professional. For sudden hearing loss, get medical help right away.

In plain wordsOur results are helpful guides, not a doctor's diagnosis or an official measurement.
07

Your Speakers, Headphones And Devices

Some tests, such as bass tones, frequency sweeps and full-volume noise, can push audio equipment to its limits. Small speakers, laptop speakers, earbuds and tweeters can be damaged by low frequencies or high volume.

You use the tools with your equipment at your own risk. Start at low volume, avoid long tests at high levels, and stop if you hear distortion, buzzing or rattling. We are not responsible for damage to any speaker, headphone, amplifier or device.

In plain wordsLoud or deep tones can harm small speakers. Go easy on your gear.
08

Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Use it to harm, harass or disturb others, for example by playing loud or high-frequency sounds at people or animals without their consent.
  • Copy, frame, mirror or embed our tools or pages on another website or app without our written permission.
  • Scrape, crawl or download our content or code with automated tools, except for search engines that follow our robots.txt.

  • Try to break, overload or get around the security of the Service.
  • Upload or send anything unlawful, harmful or that infringes someone else's rights.

10

Audio Files You Create

Some tools let you download what you make, such as WAV tones, sweeps and beat sessions, or record your own microphone.

  • Generated test audio (tones, sweeps and noise you create with our tools) may be used freely for personal and commercial purposes, including in videos and projects, without credit. A credit is always appreciated.
  • Your recordings belong to you. They are made and stored in your browser, and we never receive them unless you choose to send them to us.
  • You may not sell our generated files as a sound pack or library on their own.
In plain wordsUse the tones you make in your projects. Your recordings are yours.
11

Messages, Ideas And Submissions

If you send us feedback, bug reports, tool ideas or suggestions, you allow us to use them to improve the Service without paying you or giving credit, unless we agree otherwise.

In plain wordsIdeas you send help us improve. Guest writers keep ownership but let us publish.
12

The Service may contain links to other websites, ads, and affiliate links that earn us a small fee if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. We do not control other websites and are not responsible for their content, products, prices or privacy practices. Any purchase you make is between you and that seller.

In plain wordsOther sites follow their own rules. Affiliate links may earn us a small fee.
13

Privacy

Your privacy matters to us. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, such as basic analytics and cookies, how we use it, and your choices. Audio captured by our tools is processed on your device and is not sent to us.

In plain wordsSee the Privacy Policy for details. Your sound never reaches us.
14

No Warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent allowed by law, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including that the Service will be accurate, reliable, error-free, uninterrupted, secure or fit for a particular purpose.

Results depend on your browser, device, operating system, audio settings, microphone and speakers, which we do not control. We work hard to keep the tools accurate, as described in our Editorial Policy, but we cannot promise every reading is exact.

In plain wordsWe do our best, but we cannot promise the tools are perfect on every device.
15

Limitation Of Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Sound Tester and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, or damage to hearing or equipment, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to 50 US dollars. Some places do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

In plain wordsThis is a free service, so our responsibility for problems is limited.
16

Indemnity

You agree to protect and hold harmless Sound Tester and its team from any claims, losses or costs, including reasonable legal fees, that come from your misuse of the Service or your breaking of these terms or someone else's rights.

In plain wordsIf you misuse the site and it causes a claim against us, you are responsible.
17

Changes To The Service And These Terms

We may add, change, pause or remove tools or features at any time. We may also block access for anyone who breaks these terms.

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For important changes, we may also show a notice on the site. If you keep using the Service after an update, you accept the new terms.

In plain wordsTools and terms can change. Check the date at the top for the latest version.
18

Resolving Disputes

If you have a problem with the Service, please contact us first. Most issues can be solved quickly by talking to us. You agree to try to settle any dispute informally by contacting us and allowing at least 30 days to resolve it before starting any formal claim.

These terms are governed by the laws that apply where Sound Tester is operated, without regard to conflict of law rules, except where the consumer protection laws of your country give you rights that cannot be removed.
