Short Answer

If Windows lists the mic but the level bar stays flat, the app or Windows privacy setting is blocking it. Check mic access, then the input device in Discord.

A mic that appears in Windows but never moves the level bar is almost always blocked from above: either the Windows microphone privacy switch or the wrong input device selected inside the app.

Test the mic in the browser first. If the Mic Test shows a moving level, the hardware is fine and the problem is only inside Discord.

Step By Step Fix
  1. Open Settings, Privacy And Security, Microphone and turn on Let apps access your microphone
  2. Run the Mic Test in your browser and allow microphone access when asked
  3. In Discord open User Settings, Voice And Video and set Input Device to your USB mic instead of Default
  4. Drag the Input Volume slider up and use Let Me Check to watch the bar
  5. Unplug and replug the mic into a different USB port, ideally directly on the PC

Mine turned out to be the wrong input in Discord. I ran the Mic Test on this site first, saw the level move, then picked the same mic in Discord.
