Short Answer

Echo comes from speakers feeding back into the mic. Use headphones, lower the volume or enable echo cancellation in Meet.

The mic picks up the other person's voice from your speakers, which they then hear again. That is acoustic feedback.

After you make the change, play the Mic Test again to confirm the result. If the problem is still there, add your device, browser and what you tried in the replies so the team can narrow it down.

Step By Step Fix
  1. Use headphones during calls
  2. Lower speaker volume
  3. Turn on noise cancellation in Meet settings
  4. Run the Mic Test to see levels

Headphones fixed it. I tested it on my own setup and it held up for weeks.

Echo cancellation helped on my laptop. It took me a few minutes, and the Mic Test showed the difference straight away.
