Short Answer

Enhancements can alter the signal in strange ways. Turn them off to compare, and keep only the ones you need.

Enhancements add processing like noise suppression that can distort voices on some hardware.

After you make the change, play the Mic Test again to confirm the result. If the problem is still there, add your device, browser and what you tried in the replies so the team can narrow it down.

Step By Step Fix
  1. Open Sound, Properties, Enhancements
  2. Tick Disable all enhancements
  3. Test with the Mic Test
  4. Enable one at a time if needed

Disabled and voice was normal. I checked it again with the Mic Test afterwards to be sure.

Windows Sonic was messing up mine. Hope that saves you some time.

I check the default device and the format settings before anything else, it usually points me to the cause.
