Short Answer

Out-of-phase speakers cancel bass. Check red-to-red, black-to-black on both speakers, and listen to a mono signal that should sit in the center.

When one speaker pushes out while the other pulls in, the bass cancels. Mono sound seems to come from nowhere.

After you make the change, play the Speaker Test again to confirm the result. If the problem is still there, add your device, browser and what you tried in the replies so the team can narrow it down.

Step By Step Fix
  1. Check every wire from the amp to each speaker for correct polarity
  2. Play a mono test tone and see if it sits in the center
  3. Swap the wires on one speaker and compare
  4. Use the Speaker Test to verify left and right

I found one pair reversed. Fixed in a minute. It took me a few minutes, and the Speaker Test showed the difference straight away.

Use a test tone to confirm. I checked it again with the Speaker Test afterwards to be sure.

Checking the source format on the PC or console was the missing piece for me.
