Short Answer

Windows Sonic adds a virtual room around the sound. If voices echo, turn spatial sound off or use it only for games.

Spatial effects change the timing between ears to create a fake room, which can sound echoey with music and voices.

Turning it off restores normal stereo.

Step By Step Fix
  1. Open Settings, System, Sound, your device, Spatial sound
  2. Select Off
  3. Play the Speaker Test to compare
  4. Use Sonic only for games if you like it

Off for music, on for games. That's my rule. It took me a few minutes, and the Speaker Test showed the difference straight away.
