Curious, I'm trying to see how loud my apartment is at night. Is a phone app good enough or the website one

Short Answer

A browser or phone meter gives a rough idea, good for comparing rooms. A quiet bedroom is around 30 to 40 dB.

Consumer microphones are not calibrated, so readings can be off by several decibels. They are still useful for comparison.

After you make the change, play the Decibel Meter again to confirm the result. If the problem is still there, add your device, browser and what you tried in the replies so the team can narrow it down.

Step By Step Fix
  1. Open the Decibel Meter and allow microphone access
  2. Place the phone still in the room for a minute
  3. Compare daytime and night readings
  4. Use a calibrated meter if you need exact values

Mine read 38 at night, which matches what I expected. I checked it again with the Decibel Meter afterwards to be sure.

Great for comparing rooms. Worth trying before you spend any money.

I keep a note of my usual volume level so I can notice if something changes.
